Giving

We believe that giving is an act of worship. II Corinthians 9:7 says, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” As believers we are called to live a life of generosity with our time, talents and treasure, recognizing that all we have belongs to God and He has made us stewards of those things. So we freely, without compulsion, cheerfully give of our finances as an act of trust in our all-sufficient God!

You can give here online, you can text-to-give by texting (309) 517-0680, or if you’d like to give other ways, there are some instructions below.

Gifts of Stock and Other Securities

If you want to support the ministries of Heritage Church and avoid capital gain taxes consider a gift of stocks or mutual funds that have increased in value. Giving appreciated stock that you have owned more than one year is more advantageous than a cash donation. Not only do you avoid capital gains taxes, but tax laws allow deduction of the entire fair market value of the stock with some limitations. There is no cost to you for gifting to Heritage in this manner.

If you want to make a gift of stock showing a loss, you should sell the stock. You can then deduct this capital loss on your income tax return and then use the proceeds from the sale to fund your gift to Heritage.

For tax purposes, your gift is considered complete on the day that you turn over control of the securities. The value of the gift is its fair market value on that day.

If the stock or securities are held by your bank or broker:

It is important to notify Heritage Church’s Finance office in advance of making a gift of securities to ensure proper credit of the gift and timely acknowledgement. Call your broker and inform him/her that you want to transfer the shares to Heritage Church. Instruct your broker to contact Heritage Church for transfer instructions at 309-732-0023 or denice.evans@heritageqc.com 309-732-0024 or david.dryer@heritageqc.com

IRA Distributions

IRA owners who are 70 ½ or older can direct up to $100,000 of their IRA distributions to Heritage Church. The money given will count toward your required minimum distribution, but it won’t necessary increase your adjusted gross income or generate additional taxes.

Making this tax-free transfer to Heritage can help those who are required to take minimum distributions from traditional IRS each year but who don’t need the money to live on. It also helps those who want to support a charity but who don't itemize their deduction.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Would you like to double the impact of your gift? One of the smartest ways to do that is by giving through a Corporate Matching Gifts program.

Many corporations match the gifts of employees. Companies typically match the amount after a gift is made, but it is wise to begin an application promptly. Some employers will even set up automatic matching for repeating gifts. That means your gift to Heritage Church may have double the impact, just by seeing if your company will match your gift, dollar for dollar.

In order to apply for a matching gift you will need Heritage’s tax ID. Please contact us at the number or e-mails above to obtain this number.
